The Shack is an upcoming American fantasy drama film directed by Stuart Hazeldine and written by John Fusco based on the 2007 novel of same name by William P. Young. The film stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, and Graham Greene. Filming began on June 8, 2015 in Vancouver, Canada. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 3, 2017.
After the abduction and assumed death of Mackenzie Allen Phillip's youngest daughter, Missy, Mack receives a letter and has the suspicion it's from God asking him to return to The Shack where Missy may have been murdered. After contemplating it, he leaves his home to go to The Shack for the first time since Missy's accident and encounters what will change his life forever.
After his young daughter is murdered during a family camping trip, Mack Phillips spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to the shack where her body was found, deep in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack goes there and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.
